Genealogy Workshop: Finding Your Ancestral Gold
April 16, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
On April 16, 4:30-6:30 p.m., we begin our study with a Zoom Workshop titled “Finding Your Ancestral Gold,” led by Laurence Overmire. Everyone has an amazing family history – but most have no clue how truly remarkable it is, because they have never investigated the generations going far, far back in time. Led by a genealogist and author of 6 epic family histories, as well as the book Digging for Ancestral Gold, The Fun and Easy Way to Get Started on Your Genealogy Quest, this Zoom workshop inspires you to embark on a quest for your ancestral heritage and guides you through the steps to get you started. It is designed for those with Beginning to Intermediate experience. Bring your family histories and your questions.
Laurence Overmire had a multi-faceted career as actor, poet, playwright, director, educator and genealogist. His genealogy work has encompassed tens of thousands of hours over the last 3 decades. He is the author of 7 genealogy/family history books. A frequent lecturer, he has been a featured genealogist at the Portland Highland Games in Portland, Oregon, and the Alaska Scottish Highland Games in Palmer, Alaska. He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) through his Revolutionary War ancestor, Capt. John George Overmire.
The Genealogy Workshop is open to the congregation. A Zoom link will be emailed to participants before the free event. While the workshop is a stand-alone event on April 16 and begins at 4:30 p.m., genealogy classes (part of SNL with separate registration) will meet on three Sundays, April 23-May 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in GH 226. We hope you will join us! Sign up here.
