Adult Faith Formation

Adult faith formation nurtures balanced growth in the upward, outward, and inward spiritual life of adults while creating space for belonging, connection, and meaningful community. At MPPC, we want to help followers of Jesus Christ to experience a life-giving and life-sustaining relationship with God, grow in understanding of the Christian faith, the Word of God, and the Reformed tradition, grow in relationship with others as we share gifts and learn from one another, grow into greater commitment to, and participation in, the redemptive work of Christ in the world.

From Sunday mornings to weekdays to monthly gatherings, there are many opportunities for God to form your faith! Where will you get connected? Come and see, then go and tell! Find a group (or two) and join us!

Adult Sunday School

Sunday Mornings Sept.-May | 9:45-10:45 a.m. (Unless Otherwise Indicated)

Academy of St. John (SB 206)
The Academy enjoys studying Scripture with an eye toward history, theology, and current events to better understand and apply God’s Word in our lives and in what God is calling us to do in the world. Lectionary-based with emphasis on prayer and worship, interspersed with contemporary topics. Lively discussion prevails and new members are welcome.

Connect 3 (Parlor)
A diverse and welcoming class with a multi-faceted approach to faith. Weekly thematic and scriptural studies, often including video resources, engage through Word and discussion. Speakers from the community are invited to present to the class on occasional Sundays. Participants in this class engage in mission and service opportunities locally and internationally and enjoy scattered fellowship parties throughout the year.

Youngish Adults (GH 221/23/225)
A relaxed group of parents and young(ish) adults that meets for fellowship, conversation, and study during the education hour as kids and youth are connecting in their spaces. This class enjoys gathering as one large group, getting to know one another and sharing ideas, and breaks into smaller groups for particular studies during the year as they grow together in discipleship.

The Middle (GH 226)
We are all in the middle of something! Some of us are in the middle of raising kids, working, caring for older parents, or exploring what might be the next chapter of our lives. All of us are somewhere in the middle of our faith journey. Join the The Middle on Sunday mornings for a group that explores and studies God’s message for God’s people in the many seasons of life.

Bible for Everyone (GH 123)
Nov. 30 – Dec. 21, Bible 4 Everyone will study Voices of Advent: The Bible’s Insights to a Season of Hope by Matthew L. Skinner, Professor of New Testament at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul and the Scholar for Adult Education at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis.

Voices of Advent leads readers through biblical texts and explores how they shape our lives and Christmas celebrations. We listen as Jesus promises to return to us in the future, to John the Baptist as he prepares the way for the Messiah, to the faithful people and poets who anticipate the magnificence of Jesus’s birth, and to the angels and visionaries who praise God when Christmas dawns – and hear the hope in all of them. Experience Advent not only as the start of the Christian year, but also as the powerful overture that sets the tone for the unfolding story of Jesus.

The 2005-26 Bible study explores resilience. This is modeled by several biblical characters, gospel and epistle writers, and – of course! – Jesus. The Bible study is also about joy.
