Each angel on our Angel Tree contains a wish list from children in need that live in our community. Our goal is to help empower parents as well as make this a joyous season for the children. For more information, contact Emily Shortridge.
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House is a “home-away-from home” where 35 families can stay while their children undergo extensive medical treatment. Here, parents and children lead a life as normal as possible during these traumatic times without the financial burden of costly hotel and travel expenses. Every night a volunteer group prepares the evening meal for these families. Members of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church have been preparing this meal on the last Thursday of every month for more than 15 years. With your support, we can continue to provide a monthly meal ($300 per month) to 70 individuals. We hope that you will consider supporting this worthwhile cause as a volunteer or through your generosity. To learn more, contact Bruce McAdams.
I-Beam is a mentoring program aimed at building reading skills, self-esteem, and social skills for children who are in need of these services at Jennie Moore Creative Arts Elementary School. You can help a struggling reader by becoming an I-Beam mentor, spending one hour a week with a child to encourage the practice of reading. If you have a passion for working with children, join our mentoring team during the school year or over the summer! For more information, contact Sharon Barnett.
The MPPC cookbook is a collection of family recipes that have been handed down through the years and local restaurant favorites too. With proceeds being donated to Florence Crittenton Programs, this cookbook is a useful and meaningful gift during the holidays. Stop by the church office to pick up your copy today (cash/check: $30; purchase online: $31) or purchase online & ship ($35).
Florence Crittenton Programs assist young single mothers with the necessities they need to successfully raise healthy babies while empowering these moms to get on their feet with mentoring programs, employment assistance, and housing. The programs have been a force for good in our community since 1897.
