In the ancient world, various peoples lit fires to mark the winter season and to pray for the return of the light. The church has adapted the practice to a tradition of the lighting of candles on the Advent wreath. The candles representing hope, peace, joy, and love serve as signs of the growing light of Christ who is coming again in all fullness into the darkness of our world.
The Worship Committee is inviting individuals and families to light the candles at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on the four Sundays of Advent (December 1; December 8; December 15; December 22), and the 4 Christmas Eve services (4, 6, 8 and 11).
