This moving work features a series of poems written by Tony Silvestri about his relationship with his late wife Julie\, her battle with ovarian cancer\, and the grief he experienced as a result of her passing in 2005. \nThis concert is free and open to the public. Did you know the Old Wappetaw Cemetery behind the SeeWee Restaurant in Awendaw had a Meeting House and Pastor before it was burned to the ground by the British in 1782? Did you know that New Wappetaw church in McClellanville and Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church are sister churches? Come learn the facts at the Third Act monthly luncheon on Monday February 24th at 12 Noon. Bring a friend and come on your lunch hour to hear this interesting history. Also bring a covered dish to share\, meat will be provided. \nOur guest speaker is Huger McClellan\, from McClellanville\, who has done a lot of research on Old Wappetaw Cemetery and has an interesting powerpoint presentation to share with us. Author of Pause\, Rev. Dr. Elizabeth (Lib) Caldwell\, will be the keynote speaker at the dinner! \nAbout Smaller Groups: Small groups will meet for six weeks to engage one psalm each week from March 5-April 20. Beginning with Psalm 51 on Ash Wednesday\, each chapter connects an image from a particular psalm with our daily lives and offers a unique prayer practice for daily reflection. She has written several books about Charleston architecture and history. She is a member of Mount Pleasant Historical Commission and lives in Mount Pleasant. Some of her books include: \n\nIf These Walls Could Talk\, an account of historic structures in Charleston.\nThe Unique Charleston Single House: A Brief Guide to Charleston Architecture\, that discusses Charleston’s history\, the evolution of the Charleston single house design\, architectural styles and architectural details consecutively.\nThe Great Cooper River Bridge\, provides the complete history of this architectural icon\, exploring how early twentieth-century Charleston helped shape the bridge and how the bridge subsequently shaped the city\n\nJoin us for this interesting program\, bring a friend and covered dish\, meat will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday Worship\, 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary \nThe word “maundy” is an old English derivative of the Latin word “mandantum\,” which means “commandment.” It is used to identify this day because it was on Thursday evening\, at the Passover meal which we have come to know as “The Last Supper\,” that Jesus said\, “I give you a new commandment\, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you\, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples\, if you have love for one another…This is my commandment\, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this\, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you” (John 13:34-35\, 15:12-14). We will gather in worship around word and sacrament\, remembering this new commandment and considering its call to us today. The service will end in silence with the stripping of the chancel\, a practice dating from the seventh century and originally serving the practical purpose of cleaning the sanctuary in preparation for Easter\, when all things are made new.
