DESCRIPTION:Pacesetters is back in action for the new year! Our meeting this month will take place on Friday\, January 10 in the Fellowship Hall. We will have two speakers at our program this evening! Our semi-new Senior Pastor\, Rev. Dr. Nicole Partin Abdnour will take a few minutes to speak with us about our older adult program offerings and ministries. Her brief presentation will be followed by a short program offered by Platte Moring. Platte is a member of MPPC and also served our military in Afghanistan. He will speak about his time there as well as his interactions with the people in Afghanistan. \nDinner is $20/person\, collected at the door and the menu with feature Hoppin’ John plus other season fixings. SUMMARY:ESOL Training Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We are excited that our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) mission is expanding this winter. We will be offering a Level 1\, 2\, 3 and 4 class in person in addition to the online advanced class. This means we will also need more volunteers. The great news is you are already qualified because you speak English! It is that simple. \nClasses are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. late January till just mid-April. Some of our volunteers only come on Tuesdays or Thursdays and others come both nights. Each classroom has a teacher and an assistant with adult students who are eager to improve their English and express tremendous appreciation every class. \nTo learn more or express interest\, please reach out to Maryanne Davis at maryanne.biddix@gmail.com. Beginning with Psalm 51 on Ash Wednesday\, each chapter connects an image from a particular psalm with our daily lives and offers a unique prayer practice for daily reflection. She has written several books about Charleston architecture and history. She is a member of Mount Pleasant Historical Commission and lives in Mount Pleasant. Some of her books include: \n\nIf These Walls Could Talk\, an account of historic structures in Charleston.\nThe Unique Charleston Single House: A Brief Guide to Charleston Architecture\, that discusses Charleston’s history\, the evolution of the Charleston single house design\, architectural styles and architectural details consecutively.\nThe Great Cooper River Bridge\, provides the complete history of this architectural icon\, exploring how early twentieth-century Charleston helped shape the bridge and how the bridge subsequently shaped the city\n\nJoin us for this interesting program\, bring a friend and covered dish\, meat will be provided. DESCRIPTION:At the April 11th Pacesetters gathering\, the story of Jack the Cat\, Fort Sumter’s Cat that went to war\, will be given by Russell Horres\, Jr. The story is based on both oral tradition and period drawings placing the cat in the fort during the war.
