SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday Worship\, 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary \nThe word “maundy” is an old English derivative of the Latin word “mandantum\,” which means “commandment.” It is used to identify this day because it was on Thursday evening\, at the Passover meal which we have come to know as “The Last Supper\,” that Jesus said\, “I give you a new commandment\, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you\, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples\, if you have love for one another…This is my commandment\, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this\, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you” (John 13:34-35\, 15:12-14). We will gather in worship around word and sacrament\, remembering this new commandment and considering its call to us today. The service will end in silence with the stripping of the chancel\, a practice dating from the seventh century and originally serving the practical purpose of cleaning the sanctuary in preparation for Easter\, when all things are made new.

DESCRIPTION:Our next blood drive is Monday\, May 5 from 1 to 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Let’s fill our time slots and collect at least 28 units! The remaining blood drives for this year are July 21 from 2-6 pm and October 13 from 1-6 pm. \nWhether you have ever donated or not\, please prayerfully consider signing up and join us Monday\, May 5\, 2025: \nDonation is by appointment and Red Cross will be trying hard to stick to the schedule. However\, walk-ins will be accepted and worked in. If possible\, please complete RapidPass before you come to the church. This will streamline the process and save you some time. \nTo schedule an appointment (in order of preference): \n\nOption 1: Download the Red Cross Blood Donor App to your smartphone and from there you can schedule an appointment time. Later\, on the day of the drive\, complete RapidPass. Come join fellow MPPC and community justice-seekers for a one evening (two-hour) event. The Nehemiah Action Assembly is the Charleston Area Justice Ministry (CAJM)’s big event for the year. Your presence with us on this one night can make a HUGE DIFFERENCE! \nCAJM’s Nehemiah Action Assembly will be held on Monday\, May 5 at 7:00 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church (7396 Rivers Ave.\, North Charleston). \nOn this night we will show our public officials that our community cares about these issues: affordable housing\, bias-free policing practices\, environmental justice\, and quality education for all our children. CAJM has some BIG WINS to announce\, and there is still more work to be done on some issues. SUMMARY:Kirkin O the Tartan Service
DESCRIPTION:After the Battle of Culloden\, 1746\, the British forbade traditional Scottish heritage for nearly 50 years. During that time\, the Scots would wear a piece of tartan cloth to be blessed by the clergy\, in secret. In 1942\, Rev. Peter Marshall began the Scottish American tradition to further bond the US and UK during WWII. \nThe Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan service represents “a blessing of the family.” This worship service allows us to reflect on the gift of our Presbyterian heritage and the gifts God has given us through our past\, present and future kith and kin. \nYou are encouraged to wear your own tartan apparel – or kilt if you have one! The processional with the tartan flags & banners will take place during the 8:15 & 11 a.m. service.

DESCRIPTION:When you think of Charleston working lighthouses\, you might be thinking of our own iconic Sullivan’s Island lighthouse\, but there is far more to the story! National Park Ranger Shelby McAllister will share her expertise on the history of the various navigational lights that have existed over the centuries in our area — the many lighthouses\, range lights and other beacons that have guided mariners in the Lowcountry. National Park Ranger Shelby McAllister is a native of Iowa. After finding that classroom teaching wasn’t for her\, she joined the National Park Service and served at Harpers Ferry\, Shiloh\, and Lincoln’s Home in Springfield\, Illinois\, before coming to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park in Charleston. In this four-week series\, we will explore each of the 20th-century contributions to our Book of Confessions. The study will culminate in writing our own confession or theological statement. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be offering VBS Monday-Friday\, June 16 – 20\, 2025 from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm for children who are rising 4K – rising 5th grade (rising 6th graders need to register as a volunteer). The price for each VBS participant is $75 which includes a t-shirt ($200 family max). \nEveryone who registers a child for VBS is required to sign up to volunteer for at least one day. Volunteer opportunities are on a separate Realm registration event. There is a volunteer job and time for everyone’s schedule! If you have questions about it\, please reach out. Your child’s registration will not be complete until you have signed up to volunteer After you complete this registration\, don’t forget to register to volunteer via Realm (you will also receive an email with the link). \nChildren will be placed according to their grade level. \nIf you have difficulties with registering\, feel free to call Trish (843-884-4612 x 242). \nMini VBS registration is for the youngest children only for the volunteers on the days they’re are volunteering.
