Event Details

  • Event dates: February 14 – March 29
  • Venue: MPPC Campus

Feb. 11, Fellowship Hall
5:30 pm Soup & Salad Supper
6:00 pm Keynote Lecture
7:00 pm Q&A (30 min.)
You are invited to join us for our tradition of starting the Lenten season with a soup and salad dinner and a keynote speaker. This year, we are blessed to begin our observance of Lent by welcoming the Rev. Dr. Jill Duffield to introduce our Lenten study of the Gospel according to John with an address entitled “Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign!” From turning water into wine to the raising of Lazarus, Jesus performs signs throughout God’s Gospel. Why the word “sign” and to what do these signs point?  Does Jesus still perform signs? We’ll explore Jesus’ signs in John to help prepare us to see God’s signs throughout our Lenten journey.

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Jill Duffield
Jill serves as the editor and publisher of The Presbyterian Outlook, an independent publication on the PC(USA). She received her Master of Divinity degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Va., and her Doctor of Ministry from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has served pastorates in Greenwood, Fort Mill, and Columbia, SC. Jill is a contributor to the Connections preaching commentary series and is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of Austin Presbyterian Seminary.

Begin the Week of Feb. 11
The series that we’ll be using is by Adam Hamilton and is titled: John: The Gospel of Light and Life. The six-part series is based on the major themes of the Gospel of John, and includes topics such as “The ‘I Am’ Sayings of Jesus” and “The Farewell Discourse.”  The Rev. Dr. Jill Duffield, the editor and publisher of the Presbyterian Outlook magazine, will launch the series as our keynote speaker for Lent on the 11th of February, and small groups will begin that week.
