Rev. Dr. Charles Elliott
MPPC Interim Pastor
A native of North Carolina, Charles is a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC and Davidson College. In 1967, he entered Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.
Charles’s wife, Caryl, is also a North Carolina native and they have three grown daughters and five grandchildren.
Charles’s first pastorate was in Pollocksville, NC, followed by a move to Chester, SC where he served as Pastor of Purity Presbyterian Church.
He was then called to serve on the staff at Presbyterian College in the Development Office for three years. In 1986, Charles and Caryl moved to Wilmington, NC where he served as Executive Presbyter, Stated Clerk, and Treasurer of Wilmington Presbytery.
His next call was as Pastor of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church where he worked to address financial challenges as the church grew with new members being assimilated into the life and ministry of the congregation.
A call to Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, SC followed his pastorate at Carolina Beach. Charles accepted the opportunity to serve as the Vice-President for Resource Development on the Thornwell staff.
In 1995, Rev. Dr. Elliott moved yet again to work in the Trinity Presbytery for nine years followed by a return to Thornwell. During this time at Thornwell, Charles served as the Assistant Vice-President for Development and Church
Relations where he shared again in the ministry of providing hope and wholeness to abused, abandoned, and hurting children. His service at Thornwell concluded in June of 2011 after also serving as the Interim Vice-President there for a short time.
In November of 2011, Charles served as Interim General Presbyter and Stated Clerk in the Presbytery of Coast Carolina in North Carolina followed by his retirement.
Since retirement, Charles and Caryl have remained open to responding to opportunities to serve Christ and the church.
In 2015, he served as an Interim Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg, SC.
Our church will be blessed with his leadership as our Interim Pastor. He and Caryl have moved from their home in Clinton, SC and are living in our community while serving as Interim Pastor at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
