Presbyterian Beliefs

PCA PC(USA)

v The Presbyterian Church is a reformed church. Its belief is that you cannot “earn” your way into heaven, that the work of Salvation was done at the cross. Presbyterians do not believe a person has to be “born again” to get to heaven. It is the belief of the church that the Heavenly Father claims you as soon as you are born.
v
v Irresistible Grace is the belief that once you understand God’s love and grace and are living “in it” that you are not able to get “out of it”!
v Predestination or “election” is the belief that God “chooses” the people who are “in” and will go to be with Him in Heaven. Calvin, the founder of the Presbyterian Church, chose this belief (in our Book of Order) when trying to understand and explain why some people “get” the message of the Gospel and some do not. We are not believers of this today as the early Presbyterian Church was. We are more able to accept the “unknown” today than earlier in history.
v Our belief relating to Predestination is that God has a plan for us and can move us in the direction of that plan, that we were granted free will, but His plan for us is too broad for us to see and he moves us there without our knowing it. We make choices along the way, but our Heavenly Father is all knowing and is in control.
v We believe that if we are unhappy, we are not living our life in gratitude!
v The Presbyterian Church is a Priesthood of all Believers, in other words are all
v The Session, Deacons, and Elders govern the Presbyterian Church. Elders and Deacons are ordained by the Laying on of Hands.
v The Clerk of Session presides over the Session.
v Ordination is “lifelong”. Resting Elders remain ordained, although they are not serving.
