INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS MINISTRY

Making a Difference in the World Around Us!

The purpose of the MPPC International Missions ministry is...

  • To continue to discern the needs of those around us
  • To call and equip God's people by educating, encouraging, inspiring, and supporting
  • To send God's people out into His world to fulfill His call for our church

The International Missions Ministry (IMM) at MPPC strives to heed Christ's call to go out into the world to help feed the hungry, heal the sick, build shelters for the homeless, and show Christ's love to others.  The purpose and responsibilities of the ministry are to recommend ministries whereby the church may help eradicate hunger, racism, injustice, poverty, etc. within society, advocate for the international mission efforts of the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery, the Synod of the South Atlantic and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), and organize and recruit volunteers for mission projects and trips.

The three action ways International Missions Ministry responds is through:

  1. Educating the congregation about the needs beyond our borders;
  2. Traveling to areas of focus for Christian fellowship with our oppressed brothers and sisters, while helping to bring some element of sustainability into their lives;
  3. Direct financial support of partners in Christ in Central America, Haiti and Kenya.

The objectives and activities of the IMM reflect the five core values that are the cornerstones of MPPC.  Creating disciples of Jesus Christ, or Discipleship, is encouraged through promoting participation in various mission projects and providing opportunities for relationships to be formed with brothers and sisters in Christ in other countries.  The ministry organizes annual trips to Honduras and Nicaragua.  Families within the church have the opportunity to sponsor children in Kenya through the Kenya Children's Fund and participate in Operation Christmas Child.  Teaching the children of the church about the mission groups that we support and providing opportunities for them to participate in mission projects allows the ministry to positively impact the Youth Ministry.  The International Missions ministry addresses Stewardship by furnishing many opportunities for members to use their time, skills, gifts and resources for the glory of God.  Participation in mission trips and projects allows members of our church family to make close personal connections with others.  These close relationships enhance the quality of Congregational Care received by members by creating close bonds within a large church.  Finally, the International Missions ministry seeks to respond to the needs of those around us, and in doing so, provides MPPC with leadership for Missions.

  Our vision is to seek and implement God's call "to go," as revealed in Jesus Christ, through the calling, equipping and sending of the church to love and to serve the least of these among us, in our community and beyond our borders.  Matthew 25:40

Nicaragua

MPPC is committed to working alongside the poorest people of Nicaragua.  Several mission teams have responded to God's call to go to Nicaragua.  Many opportunities exist in Nicaragua, from helping with construction projects to serving with missionaries based  in the country to supporting a coffee cooperative.  All projects are coordinated through the Center for Development in Central America.

Kenya

MPPC's presence in Kenya began in the 1990's in support of Daystar University, a non-denominational Christian evangelical institution,  by providing scholarships.  In 2002, we accepted the sponsorship challenge of the Kinyao-Dandora schools in the slums of Nairobi by supporting these children through contributions to the Kenya Children's Fund.  MPPC women and the Maasai women of Magdalene Setia Kaitei's community have been linked in a women-towomen global partnership in a borehole project to provide accessible drinking water for the village.

Estimated Cost: $3000
