CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Children's Ministries is the ministry of the Session of MPPC that visions and oversees all educational ministries & programs for the children (ages birth to 5th grade) of MPPC.  The committees that make up Children's Ministries are;

  • Baby Guild
  • Childcare
  • Children's Church School
  • Special Events (Pageant, Children's Sunday, Spring musical)
  • First Grade Worship
  • Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Learning Center (MPPLC)

BABY GUILD

The Baby Guild serves to welcome the youngest members of MPPC and support & nurture their families.  As babies are born and the church learns of their arrival, the Baby Guild delivers important information regarding the Christian nurture of our children and the opportunities for families and children at MPPC.  Please contact the church office to let us know the glorious news of your child's birth so that we can inform the Baby Guild.

CHILDCARE

Mary Ruth Starr (mstarr@mppc.net) is our childcare coordinator and is always looking for committed volunteers to help out with the youngest of our members!  Opportunities are available for our youth through our senior adults.

SPECIAL EVENTS

 Children's Christmas Pageant

Our Children's Christmas Pageant happens each year in December.  It is coordinated through our Children's Choirs and takes place in our sanctuary.  Participation in this program is a great way for your child to come to know the exciting story of Christ's birth in a personal and integral way!

Barbara Loehr, our music director, coordinates the Christmas Pageant with the Angel Notes, Primary and Junior Choirs.  Each choir has specific roles in the pageant each year and they all combine to create an energetic and exciting worship experience for all who attend.

 Children's Sunday

Each fall, Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church dedicates one Sunday to our most precious resource - our children.  Children from 1st through 5th grade get involved and learn about how we worship God by writing prayers, reading scripture and leading all three worship services.

It was a great success and touched all that were worshiping at our services. Contact Betsy Meares, coordinator, if you are interested in participating.

Spring Musical

Call Barbara Loehr at 884-4612 if you need information.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH SCHOOL

Sunday mornings are ENERGETIC at MPPC!  To qualify to teach church school you've got to LOVE OUR CHILDREN!  We'll equip you with the rest ~ that means teacher training, receiving curriculum well in advance of your beginning to teach and coordinating teams who teach together and bounce ideas off each other.  We have ONE church school hour.

As a church school teacher, you covenant to be a faithful participant in the lives of our children by serving, along with your team of teachers, for the entire fall and/or summer session of church school.  Teams are typically made up of at least four people so you only have to put together a lesson ONCE A MONTH & you don't have to teach by yourself!  The team of four comes up with the teaching schedule that best suits the four people in that team. . .AND you get to know one another very well!  You also model Christian fellowship and a spirit of cooperation and collaboration for our children.  Most of all, you have FUN while teaching and learning from the children of MPPC!

We ask that all parents who have children in our church school teach. It is a great way to share your belief in God with your children! We will be looking for summer 2007 teachers soon. Call Lori Bellaciccoat 884-4612 to volunteer.

FIRST GRADE WORSHIP

First Grade Worship program includes 10 sessions to educate our first graders about all aspects of worship as part of their church school curriculum. During the sessions, children are involved in learning about the parts of worship and parents receive information each week to follow up at home. The teachers use many activities to help everyone understand and enjoy learning about worship. Staff provides presentations on communion and baptism. At the end of the thirteen week curriculum, each child receives a personalized Bible during worship.

VACATION BIBLE EXPERIENCE

"RainForest Adventure"

June 16 - 20, 2008

Vacation Bible Experience (VBE) at MPPC is like NOTHING you've ever seen!  Our church campus is transformed into spaces that entices our children "COME IN and have fun while learning and worshiping!"  MPPC's VBE takes place around mid-June each summer and is open to all God's children, both in the church & in the community.  There are two groups that participate in VBE: preschoolers through rising fifth graders & rising sixth graders.  Preschoolers through rising fifth graders participate in the curriculum chosen by the VBE committee as well as morning & afternoon assemblies, crafts, music and recreation.  Rising sixth graders also participate in the morning assemblies, but their focus for the week is completing local mission projects and processing them as a group.

We begin planning for this wonderful week in early January and don't conclude until the Sunday following VBE with a big celebration at church led by the children and attended by many of their siblings, friends, parents and other church members. And what a celebration it is!  VBE provides MANY areas where you can 'plug-in as a volunteer'. . .we need all sorts of gifts and talents to make this fun week happen! Call Fran Blakeney at 881-2358 or Lori Bellacicco at 884-4612 for more information.
